Our Story

Our story began in May of 1923 when a group of interested citizens from a community of 358 people met with the purpose of organizing a fire company. They worked to raise funds and eventually purchased a Hale Ruggles Combination Pumper. However, the very shed the pumper was being stored in was struck by lightning. The shed and surrounding building lit up with fire and the pumper was immediately put into services to save the surrounding buildings. It worked, and the charter for the Community Fire Company of Cornwall Borough was granted on October 22, 1924.
